Introduction
Whitley Bay High School was awarded Teaching School status in July 2011- one of the first 56 secondary schools to be designated nationally, in recognition of the oustanding professional development offered within the school, and to teachers and leaders from across the region and beyond. We believe that schools are infinitely improvable and our mission is to provide exciting, timely, relevant and supportive training for teachers, support staff and leaders throughout their careers so that they in turn inspire their students with a lifelong love of learning.
Adam Chedburn, National Leader of Education and Headteacher at Whitley Bay High School since 1993 said: ' We are delighted by the success of our recent bid for Teaching School status which offers great opportunities for both for our Teaching School Alliance partners and our partners in the North Tyneside Learning Trust. We have always known that the quality of the support teachers receive in their initial training years is vital to their development as high quality classroom practitioners and future leaders, and we want to use our new status to open up an exciting dialogue about what makes the very best teaching and learning.'
Whitley Bay High School has developed a number of very successful programmes to give new entrants to the profession many opportunities to experiment creatively and take risks, so that they quickly become catalysts for innovation within the school. Likewise teachers in their second and third years at the school value continued support and training opportunities as they take the steps towards middle leadership. At Whitley Bay High we are focused on talent spotting, both within our student body and our staff using the motto 'gifted all rounders' as our starting point.
