The OTP, developed by OLEVI and Third Wave, is a highly successful programme of professional development designed for teachers who are currently ‘good’ or borderline ‘outstanding’ and have the capacity to develop to become consistently ‘outstanding’ teachers. The programme is additionally suitable for our Middle Leaders who are involved in and committed to the development of outstanding teaching and learning with other staff.
The programme consists of five taught sessions and three ‘in-school practice’ sessions across 8-9 weeks where delegates trial and embed the key concepts of outstanding teaching within their own teaching practice. Each session focuses on a range of aspects of Teaching & Learning such as pace, challenge, engagement, differentiation, questioning and planning.
At Whitley Bay High School we have 4 Lead Trainers who are accredited as Outstanding Facilitators and an additional 3 Lead Trainers and 5 SLEs who support the training team. In 2011 - 2012 64 teachers from across North Tyneside and Northumberland took part in ITP and OTP courses at WBHS and the evaluations were wholly supportive of both the enjoyment gained from the courses and the impact back in the home school. 92% of participants judged the courses outstanding and 8% very good.
